Facilities
Facilities are limited at Skelly Field. After all, this is a Army Helicopter Training Field, not Laguna Seca. In other words, racing fuel will not be available on site. Nor will electrical or air hookups. Rumor has it there is a water hose connected to one of the Field buildings.
Recommend you bring some sort of shelter as the South Alabama sun on that flat, open flight line can get pretty scorching by the end of May. Bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and water. Restaurants are located in Opp (about 5 miles west) or Enterprise (about 15 miles east). There is no concession stand nor will meals be catered this year, so it's strictly a 'bring your own' type deal. Wiregrass should be providing lunch meals for the volunteer workers.
There was a country store located about 2 miles west of Skelly Fld, but it only had snack items (chips, etc.). This was also the closest location for pump gas. Reportedly this old country store has been a site location for more than one film.
The only Auto Parts store open in Opp after noon on Saturday is an Advance Auto Parts store. There will be no tire shops open in Opp on Memorial Day weekend. Still have to check what will be open in Enterprise for that weekend.
Camping will be allowed on site, however it is primitive. No open fires allowed on site. Also, no electricity, no running water (besides the rumored hose), no bathhouses. Porta-john will be available. Campers and motor homes welcome.
| Everyone please ensure they bring trash bags to pack all their garbage out. The Army would much prefer that your paper cups and shop rags end up in a dumpster rather than in the engines of one of their $19M helicopters. We definitely do not want to get the Army upset. |

Looks like SEDivision will be gaining several newly-trained Time Trial Safety Stewards during 2005.

Prior to 1910, the farmers in this region of Alabama grew one thing - cotton. It wasn't called King Cotton for nothing. But, in 1910, the area was 'visited' by the Mexican Boll Weevil who would completely devastate the area's cotton crop for the next couple of years. It looked like the whole economy and way of life in the area was doomed, but then the local farmers started trying to growing other types of crops. And so, diversified farming was begun. In gratitude for the resulting prosperity, the City of Enterprise erected a monument to the Boll Weevil in the center of town on Dec. 11, 1919. It is reportedly the World's only monument erected to 'celebrate' what is otherwise considered a pest.
